It’s about that time friends!! Our semi-annual floor sale is coming up next week on August 20th + 21st! We feel a little like a broken record but our sales just keep getting better and we are having so much fun getting everything together for our BEST sale yet!!

Our team of talented boss babes have been having a blast behind the scenes dreaming up fun discounts and details for the sale. Which reminded us that we haven’t properly introduced you to the team that keeps Brass + Oak fresh and fun and your favorite place to shop!!

Let’s start with our newest addition to the team, the lovely and sweet Ania (she says “like Tonya without the T.”) She’s such a great fit, it feels like she’s been here forever! Ania was born in Poland and lived in So Cal but is now loving our El Dorado County trees! She is a mom of three girls with a passion for fashion and design. Ania owns a sustainable vintage Instagram and Etsy shop and has a deep interest in classic literature and political science. She is an Army Veteran. We are loving her design eye and fun vintage fashions in the shop - she’s currently around Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays so pop in for some serious outfit goals!!

We asked Ania to pick her favorite item that will be available for our upcoming sale. Without hesitation, she took us to her absolute favorite piece on the floor - the gorgeous Rothco chair. This beauty has luxe and durable leather fabrication, beautiful details, and it swivels!! Functional, so stylish, and fun . . . if you love it like Ania does, do NOT hesitate. This chair is going to find a home quickly and so we encourage you to come on down to the shop prior to the sale with measurements and pictures of your space. Do you have the perfect throw pillow? Bring it down and make sure it works prior to the craziness of the sale.

You may recognize Marie from our social media stories and posts. She is our fantastic new shop manager and we are thanking our lucky stars for her! Marie also owns her own Etsy shop (loving the creativity from our team) where she sells her handmade macrame/fiber art. Marie loves bluegrass and southern gothic country music. She is big on camping and kayaking and loves shopping for vintage goods! Marie is fun, smart, and just so cool. Our customers have been loving her and we are enjoying the fun and happy vibe she’s brought to the shop!

Marie’s sale pick is a lot like Marie - fun, gorgeous, and fabulous - the Skylar accent chair! This floor sample is neutral and comfy but with absolutely luxurious gold legs. It’s truly a mix of California cool and sophisticate elegance. And even better? The fabric on the Skylar is “KID-PROOF” a signature performance fabric that our Rowe line of upholstery offers which repels stains and makes spot treating a breeze! Just like the rest of the pieces, we know you all will love her and she’s going to be in high demand.

Meet Jamie! She’s the voice and photographer behind the scenes and takes care of the social media and marketing arenas for the shop. Jamie is a baseball and yoga-obsessed mom of 3 boys who loves the chance to share all the amazing things going on at Brass + Oak. Jamie and her family are San Diego transplants and who bought their dream A-frame in Camino in January. She loves hiking, paddle-boarding, reading, live music, cooking and WINE . . . you can see why El Dorado county has been a fantastic fit!

Jamie’s pick for the sale is a little different - she is all about those gorgeous rugs! She actually ordered an amazing custom rug from the January floor sale and now has her eye on a few of our one of a kind vintage rugs that are going to be discounted with the sale . . . and maybe a performance runner or two to keep those boys from sliding down the hallways during Camino snowstorms! She loves the unique details that come with the vintage area rugs and will be joining you all in line for the sale Friday morning!

And you all know and love her, she needs no introduction . . . Molly is the heart of Brass + Oak. Our ambitious boss babe and mama to be, Molly is a beloved local Interior Designer and the owner of B+O. Molly is a hometown girl - she grew up locally before spending many years living and working in California’s most energetic and inspiring cities - Los Angeles & San Francisco. She returned to Placerville bringing her concept of high design and an ultrachic aesthetic. Molly is married to Ben, owner of Placerville’s beloved Heyday Cafe and they have been getting all the parenting practice in with two cutest Boston Terriers - Hudson and Revere.

Brass + Oak is a unique retail experience - an opportunity to shop the high-end furniture, lighting, rugs, and accessories that Molly sources in her design projects. And next week our lucky customers will score amazing deals and finds as we make room in the shop for all new pieces coming!

June is here . . . Father's Day Gifts!

Happy June - summer came in HOT this year! It’s been awesome to see your smiling faces on Main Street and we are so thrilled to see so many new businesses arriving and some of our favorites expanding and refreshing as we look forward to a fun summer in Placerville. We have a lot going on at Brass + Oak too that we are excited to share with you.

It’s time to talk Father’s Day! We all are so grateful for the awesome dads who have truly brought their a-game this year through the ups and downs of distance learning, cancelled plans, and extra time at home. We know you are too so let’s show them some love with a thoughtful gift he’ll get a ton of use out of.

We have incredible items to stock his bar - from bar tool sets and recipe books to actual barstools and a bar cart, we’ve got every single thing he could want! Ice molds are very popular for guys who like to drink scotch and bourbon. Carry on cocktail kits are cute for a plane trip but also useful for camping or tailgating. We have gorgeous new wine keys and bottle coasters for the wine-loving dad, make sure you pick up a local El Dorado County wine to go with. And whether he’s got one or not, we think a new gorgeous cocktail shaker is always useful if he’s a mixologist.

Our hand-made in Los Angeles line of games and trays are still getting so much love in the shop and they are disappearing quickly!! The husband and wife team behind these gorgeous items really get the young hip dad - who doesn’t love corn-hole, dominos, backgammon? These items are not only gorgeous, they are functional and sustainably made. The paint won’t fade in the sun on the corn-hole and the board games come in the cutest and most functional little boxes that are fantastic for camping, the pool, or sticking in his suitcase for any summer travel.

We just got in a large restock of denim aprons with some new styles available - nothing screams dad loves to bbq more than a dark denim apron with pockets for all his tools. But not only did we get three different styles of aprons (ladies do not miss out on the fantastic midi denim apron style,) but we also got the greatest little pot-holder ends perfect for cast iron camping or grill pans. Our denim placemats look amazing on both indoor and outdoor tables BUT our absolute favorite item that just arrived are our new denim log carrying bags! These will be fantastic later this year when the temps go back down but for now, these are amazing for campfires or fire-pits in the backyard . . . we can smell the s’mores already!

Memorial Day - let's BBQ!

Can you believe summer is right around the corner?! School is winding down and the temps are going UP! We’ve loved chatting with you all popping by to pick up Teachers & Grad gifts. It’s clear we all have a very happy summer on the brain and we have some fantastic new finds in the shop to get it started out right!

Memorial Day is coming quickly - May 31st is right around the corner and there is nothing better to start the summer out right than a BBQ with friends. Mother's Day 2021

If you are anything like us, you are feeling relieved, excited, and overwhelmed as we return to our new “normal.” Daily we start to reopen schools and sports, shopping and dining, and there are constant little signs that life is coming back at us. . . quickly! But also if you are like us, you are feeling a ton of gratitude for those who carried us through this last year; zooming and punting with each new change and keeping things as normal as possible so that families and businesses could keep up with the constant change and our families could continue to thrive. We love you moms!

It’s time to spoil her! Boy does she deserve it. We want to celebrate all she has carried you through this year, but also the fact that hosting and FUN that we’ve craved and waited forever for are now rapidly approaching. We may be biased but we think she is going to love this return to normal and the many ways you can love on her and celebrate all the things that we’ve been waiting for.

The miles ottoman is also a fan favorite. It comes in two sizes, this is the smaller version. We had in it leather that we absolutely loved, and since it went to it’s forever home, we knew we wanted to bring it back! This time we decided to pick a fun yet neutral plaid fabric for ya’ll to see.

Turn your Backyard into an Oasis

It is officially summer y’all! Since this summer might be feeling a little different than most, we wanted to get you inspired and give you some exciting ideas for how you can turn your backyard into a summer oasis! All of you who had trips planned and you had to cancel, or events that got postponed, now is the time you can make your own backyard a beautiful safe haven: a place of security, peace and comfort and one that brings a smile to your face. And when you need to escape from your new “work from home life” or decompress from any stressors in the world around you, you have a beautifully curated space right at your footsteps. 

In this blog we will be showing you how you can use some of our favorite summer products to create a cozy outdoor oasis with a fun tablescape, our fav poolside + picnic products, bar cart essentials, and tools for the king or queen of the grill!

Summer Tablescape

Ahhh, eating outside on beautiful summer nights are our favorite. Just something about the fresh air, cool breeze and watching California sunsets after a yummy meal. We thought it would be fun to show you how you can pair different items together to create a fun + simple tablescape. Here we used some of our favorite table settings, including these white linen placemats paired with these black fringed trivets, and our favorite denim napkins. So much good texture! And what about these stools? I feel like they compliment these fringe trivets perfectly! We also used this amazing deep acacia bowl for our salad with some antique bronze salad utensils.

Added some bright flowers in our white color block vase and we were ready to pour a glass of wine and enjoy some appetizers!

He was loving the Turkish towel and being our model for the evening.

Give your Bathroom a Refresh

Hi Brass + Oak Fam!

I think we can all agree home is our happy place. It always has been, but especially now more than ever. Given that we have been social distancing ourselves for the past 2 months, this was the perfect time to take advantage of my husband to help me with some home improvement projects. So we decided to give our bathroom a budget-friendly refresh! Mind you, our home was built in the 1970’s so any upgrades to our space makes a HUGE difference.

I though it would be fun to share one of our favorite quarantine projects with you and hopefully provide some inspiration incase you have been thinking about giving your space a refresh. All decor used to style this space was from our retail shop! This vintage kilim bath mat has sold BUT we will be getting more in shortly, so keep your eyes open + we will keep you posted as soon as they hit our floors! Styling Tip: Vintage kilim rugs make GREAT bath mats. They are 100% wool so super easy to clean!

A little paint, new hardware, paired with some beautiful decor is really all we needed for this mini makeover - besides a little shiplap, new countertop, sink + faucet. If you would like to know more details about these items we picked out, feel free to leave any questions in the comments below =)

One day I would love to fully renovate this bathroom and do some serious demo, but for now, I am very happy with the progress we have made. This vanity is SO old ya’ll. I can’t tell you how many times I have painted this thing. But when you’re ballin on a budget, its amazing what some fresh paint can do!

I decided to brighten up this space with some white walls, paint the vanity black for some contrast and add some simple modern matte black handles to help make this vanity look a little less ancient. Later down the road I would love to put some black hexagon tile in here and resurface these cabinets! Wouldn’t that look amazing?

Here you can see the shiplap wall we added behind the vanity and behind the toilet, which is adjacent to this wall you see here. I originally really wanted to find some fun, bold, tropical wallpaper for this small space but was having a hard time finding vinyl wallpaper I liked. And since we currently do not have a fan in this bathroom with good circulation, I really needed vinyl to guarantee it wouldn’t peel from any moisture. So shiplap it was! These are actually MDF boards from Home Depot. Much cheaper than the other stuff and didn’t require us to sand— which saved us lots of time.

We also decided to go with a white vessel sink and matte black faucet we found from Build.com. I have to say, I think this is my favorite part besides decorating— is picking out accessories and hardware! It can really add so much character and your personality into your space, depending on what mood or style you are trying to create.

Keeping the counter as clutter free as possible, I used this wood tray as a base for my hand soap, jewelry dish, and cute little bud vase. Bud vases are great fillers and help add height when needed and also a great way to add some greenery or dried florals which can bring so much life into your space.

And lastly, above the new toilet I added our most famous scented soy candle with a pair of our funny matchboxes. If you have ever walked into the shop and wondered why it smells so good, this is our secret! A blend of bergamot + geranium essential oils! Be sure to check our the rest of our matchboxes as well. They will give you a good giggle =)

Shelf Styling Essentials

Is your space feeling a little under the weather from the winter months? We’ve got you covered! What better way to spruce up your home, then to give your shelves a Spring refresh! Styling shelves can be a little intimidating, but with these simple steps and by adding some great elements, you can easily achieve gorgeous shelves every time!

STEP ONE: START WITH A BLANK CANVAS

Whenever I’m doing any type of spring cleaning or restyling to my space, this is a great time to remove everything off your shelves, give it a good cleaning and rock out to some of your fav jams in the meantime! No one’s judging…unless you have fur babies like I do.

STEP TWO: GATHER YOUR LIKE COLORED ITEMS

When you’re clearing off your shelves, this is a perfect time to group your like colored items together. Find any similarities in the colors and textures. This will help when you’re ready to start restyling, I promise! To creative a cohesive color pallet, it’s best to stick to using 2 or 3 colors. Below you will notice I stuck to white, natural wood and really used to green shelf to compliment these colors.

STEP THREE: START PLACING YOUR BIG ITEMS FIRST

Add height. You want your shelves to be balanced! You can use frames or artwork. Books are great for this too— and you can easily stack them if you need more dimension. Our go-to items that you can find in our shop are these awesome serving bowls + charcuterie boards! These are perfect for adding organic elements and texture with the natural wood. And, when you’re not using them to style, you can use them in your kitchen when you need to entertain.

We also have amazing ceramic and/or glass vases that would work as a great base to your shelf as well!

STEP FOUR: START FILLING IN THE BLANKS

Now you can build around your big items. Also be mindful you are spreading your like colored items throughout your shelves. You don’t want all your white or all your black pieces combined together. This is where you can also play around with creating dimension— having various sizes grouped together. Aim to keep your groupings to three or two items, or one big item.

You can find perfect little bud vases at our shop that make styling your shelves super easy, and can be used in any room of your home.

STEP FIVE: ADD SOME LIFE!

Whether you want some pops of greenery or need more color, adding plants, flowers or even simple twigs to your vases is a perfect way to showcase your personality and taste! Dried eucalyptus is our FAVORITE! And so versatile. We basically keep any dried flower or twig that can survive without H2O and reuse for styling any vases we want to bring to life! And if you don’t have enough natural light in your given space, faux is a great option as well!

Our February Favorites for the Month of Love

February might be the shortest month of the year, but it is also known for being one of the most popular holiday’s — Valentines Day! Although many believe Valentines Day is just a hallmark holiday (like my hubby would say) or created by the candy companies for profit, there is actually historical significance tied to this day.

No matter how you may or may not celebration this day, it’s a great month to be reminded of how much love + happiness you are surrounded by— whether it be your significant other, your girlfriend’s or your family.

We thought it would be fun to share with you some of our February favorites that we not only love but to us resemble something unique, fun + beautiful, that you can add to any space in your home.

1. Our custom Placerville pillows have definitely made a statement and are flying off our shelves! The colorful zip pillow shown above are my personal favorite but we also have more styles available in grey. Retail: $39

2. Check out this hot pink African mud-cloth 20” pillow! How fun is this? The authentic texture and simple geometric pattern makes for a great accent piece for your bed or couch. Fall Living Room Design

What we love about Fall

Time to get cozy and gear up for this fall season. It is finally here and we aren’t mad about it!! Give me all the crisp mornings, cozy sweaters, and pumpkins please! We are SO excited to be in the heart of historic Placerville and just miles away from Apple Hill. Spring Refresh

Who else loves a good home refresh?

Spring is the time of year when the sun shines a little more, birds are chirping, and you take care of that much needed refresh for the home. We did just that in the shop! And we have to share all our spring/ summer favorite items in the shop. It’s important to move from the dreary dark tones and experiment with fun pops of colors and textures.

It’s important to move from the dreary dark tones and experiment with fun pops of colors and textures. One of the ways we love to update and style a bedroom or seating area is with pillows. We recently received a large shipment of indigo dyed pillows and pillows made from vintage fabric that are sure to bring character and charm to any space. 

We’ll always love our African Mud Cloth pillows because they provide a great option for layering patterns. We have so many styles in store right now that would look beautiful placed on a sofa in the living room or a chair in the bedroom.

Another great home accessory we love to style a space with are baskets. From giant natural textured baskets with leather handles to small belly baskets with tassel detailing. The great thing about baskets is that they bring a very relaxed California style to the home. The natural fibers are warm and invite the outdoor texture in. Other than the obvious aesthetics that are created with the natural look of baskets, they also make for great storage. Extra pillows or throws can easily be tossed in a basket and styled aside a sofa or chair.

Last but not least, our favorite, the bar-cart. Yes, we know that the beloved bar-cart is sure to make an appearance in the summer months but the sunshine calls for a nice cocktail or two. We love the chic put together feel that a bar-cart brings to the home. Not to mention, it’s so darn fun to piece together. We have such cool items to pop into your cart at home. Glass decanters bring an elegant minimalist style, while the handmade wooden muddlers make for a great conversational piece. And let’s face it, whatever it takes to muddle that lime into your mojito is all that matters!
